Hauling out to the Hokianga

After Kai Iwi Lakes, we pushed on northward and found a splendid lookout over the gorgeous Hokianga Harbour.  Another lookout was just before Opononi.  They'd obviously had some trouble with car thieves up there, as they had a Lions Club volunteer posted up there to keep an eye on the cars and campers for a shiny gold coin donation.
From  the  lookout we carried on to quaint little Rawene.  We stayed in a campground with a pool which pleased PB and a fabulous outlook down the harbour.
There were so many amazing scenes on the way through stunning Northland that the 3 year old could be heard from the back seat saying:  "Not again, not another beautiful view..."  Ha!
At the campsite, we got talking to a lovely family from Auckland (though originally from chch ) who turned out to know our friend's daughter as the dad had been her hockey coach!  What the? It's a tiny, tiny village this fair country of ours.  They were a delight.
While there , we ventured to the Koutu boulders. Nothing like a bit of free fun! Bit of a rough road to get there, so some gravel to traverse, but not too bad!
We weathered a quite bad storm remarkably well tucked in a Rawene.
