Catlins Capers

Sadly, our time in Dunedin came to an end and we left to head towards the Catlins, though not before stopping at the legendary spring water tap on the side of the Speights brewery to top up our drinking water supplies!
While there, PB and DH noticed a chap drop a few $20 notes on the footpath, so PB set off after him to return them and was delighted when the fellow rewarded him with two 50c pieces.  There is goodness in the world.
We stopped at the Old Sod Cottage between Milton and Balclutha,  and then again for a playground inspection by PB in Balclutha.
Onward to Owaka,  but the campground was pretty uninspiring, so we backed out of there and instead drove down the road and out to the coast to a tiny place called Pounawea. The campground is beautiful.  Right on the water, with mature trees and bush walks in behind.  The birdsong in the afternoon  was magnificent, the tuis were in full chorus. Very glad we continued on to find this place.  (Only $38, too, and free untimed showers, and no  charge for PB,  so splendid.)
Dropped the caravan off and headed to Jack's Blowhole.  It was a 20 minute trek to a blowhole which is about 200 metres inland from the coast. Quite neat, to see the sea rushing in so far from the shore, but wasn't really a geyser-like blowhole.  A tourist we spoke to described it as 'More of a gurgle...'.
Stopped at Jack's Bay to watch two seal pups on the beach.
PB had marvellous time back at the campground speeding through muddy puddles on his bike.  He got mud right up his back, neck and hair and was thoroughly enjoying himself.  Sometimes it's the simplest things that give us the most fun.
