'O' for Awesome Oamaru

From the association campsite at Awamoko, we packed up and headed to Oamaru.  Found a GREAT campsite right in the middle of town and near the water with friendly owners.
The playground was fab and right next door to our camp, so PB was well pleased.
We jumped on the bikes and headed to the Steampunk HQ.  SO COOL!  If you are ever in Oamaru, it's a must see. Amazing inventions  / sculptures  /  curios.  $20 for the whole family, which we paid to a tough looking dude with "pay here" tattooed on the palm of his hand.  Loved it.
In the afternoon, PB and I went to find my Dad's old school, St Kevins.
Then we headed to Bushy Beach to see if we could spotted some penguins.  Alas, the 'Penguin Ambassador' we spoke to wasn't hopeful.   He said only two had come up the beach lady night Amex none the night before.
We DID manage to spot two seals, but we didn't have the patience to wait in the cold wind for a chance sighting of a couple of penguins.  Highlight of the trip to Bushy Beach was the fish and chips we had in the car!
Back to Awamoko to the $3 each campsite the next day and an epic road trip to Waimate.  It's really not that far to Waimate, but when you take a road home because "this is the right way, eh?" it BECOMES an epic road trip!
Anyway, went to Waimate to see the White Horse on the side of the hills and do a walk at the look out over the area. Lovely.  The white horse is just some painted concrete on the side of a hill, but quite cool.
On the loooooooong way home (yes, my fault)  We found Pattersons Cottage which was a cool sod cottage in the middle of nowhere!
Waimate was hosting the March Hare motorbike rally, so we saw loads of bikies.
Poor tired family made it back (eventually)!
