Chocolate was on this morning's menu, as we wanted to head to Collingwood and visit the Rosy Glow Chocolate House. It was a rather quaint pink villa on the water. We each picked a chocolate and then sat out watching the water to eat them for morning tea.
Over the Takaka Hill (so windy, but so pretty when you can see the view! Our journey over had been obscured by cloud).
Near the top was the Ngarua Caves. We called in, donned hard hats and joined a tour of the cave.
Wow, it was so good! There were stalactites, stalagmites, straws, columns and even moa bones! The tour guide was an older English chap who tried to make a few jokes as we went, which was good. An example: "If you came back in 5,000 years, you would notice two things, one, the damaged stalactites would be as good as new, and two, I would probably be retired." Oh, ho, ho!
Drove down the rest of the Takaka Hill and through bustling and busy Takaka. (Singing a family song that has 'Ca-ca-ca' in it and replacing it with 'Takaka')
Onward to have a look in Kaiteriteri but whoa! That place was rammed! Easter and school holidays and everyone in the South Island had headed there, it seemed. We did a quick u-turn and got out of town fast.
We stopped in Motueka to do a little ride along the waterfront and look at an old wreck of a boat.
We had a small mishap trying to get out of Motueka, connecting reasonbly gently with a BMW, but the ladies in the car were gentle and lovely and we swapped details amicably and headed on to Ruby Bay to a campground for the night.
Interestingly, a lady in a full length dress and white bonnet is camping next to us. (Gloriavale-stylez). Very curious to hear her story but far too shy to ask.
