We met a little Weka here with what looked like a dislocated leg. Looked very healthy and mobile, just walked with a limp and his foot faced sideways. PB creatively named him 'Sore Leg Weka'.
We split into two adventure parties, with Mum and PB heading off on our bikes up part of the West Coast Wilderness Trail beside an amazing water race, and DH heading out on the lake for a paddle.
What a great ride! A little bit scary, given on one side of the track, there was a deep and swiftly moving water race, and the other side sported a steep drop off down to a river way below. Fortunately, PB can ride pretty straight and despite stopping every 30 meters or so to throw sticks or stones or leaves into the deep, swift, water race AND to check all small bridges to ensure their safety prior to me crossing, we managed to make it there and back with injury. (And managed to rendezvous on time with the kayaker.)
After meeting back up on time, we jumped in the car and ventured out to Dorothy Falls and did the little Dorothy Creek walk to the lake, which was lovely.
Came home for a rest and who should arrive? But our new campsite friends with their two little girls. PB was over the moon! They played happily all afternoon until the sun went down while the parents had a wee glass of wine. Another lovely day.
