Upon pulling away from our campsite this morning, PB said: "Thanks campsite, thanks lake, thanks mountains, we had a lovely time, thank you!".
My sentiments exactly.
We said goodbye to another blue sky day and made our way over the Haast Pass. PB had fun trying to say Haast Pass and instead resorted to 'Half Past'.
We stopped at a lookout over Lake Hawea, very pretty. And at the Blue Pools, after Makarora.
The bush walk was only 30 minutes and the water was a stunning blue. A couple of brave young tourists opted to dive in, but BBBBRRRRRRRR! !! They weren't in for long!
People had made lots of stacks of river stones everywhere. We took photos of our shadows against the river bed before carrying on to Haast.
Freaky thing, because the road is so windy and steep in places, they have a 'runaway vehicle lane' - which is basically there in case your brakes fail, you can run up this step side lane to slow down and be saved!
Went out to have a look at Oturu Beach, where you can buy a house for $269,000 or a section for $125,000.
Then came back to play on the play ground in camp.
Lovely day, and given the proliferation of sandflies about, we have definitely reached the West Coast!
